Two NOS 1N34A germanium diodes are added alongside the four silicon clipping diodes, extending headroom, smoothing the breakup, and delivering a more natural, dynamic response.

Bluesbreaker-Style Circuit with Germanium Diodes
The FERMION adds NOS 1N34A germanium diodes alongside the silicon diodes found in the original Bluesbreaker and King of Tone circuits. This combination increases headroom and softens the clipping edge, delivering smoother breakup with warm harmonics and musical compression. At lower gain settings, it works as an always-on tone enhancer, adding body, presence, and a subtle edge-of-breakup feel. Turn the gain up and it moves into a richer drive with a gentle mid push and strong touch sensitivity.
Versatile Gain Stage
With high headroom and an organic response, the FERMION works as a main overdrive, a stacking foundation, or a gain stage to push an amp into fuller saturation.

NOS 1N34A Germanium Diodes
The 1N34A is a highly sought-after germanium diode, famously used in the original Klon Centaur. Its soft clipping curve and low forward voltage deliver warm, musical overdrive with rich harmonics and natural compression. These diodes are increasingly scarce, making them a prized component for tone-conscious builders.
JRC4580DD Op Amp
The low-noise variant of the JRC4580D, famously used in the King of Tone. This BJT-input op amp delivers warm mids and smooth clipping with enhanced clarity and reduced background noise. It provides the classic punchy, saturated overdrive tone that defines the Bluesbreaker lineage.
