TAUON
OD + Boost
The TAUON is a two-stage gain pedal that stacks a King of Tone-style overdrive into an Analogman Bad Bob-inspired boost. The overdrive uses the JRC4580DD op amp with NOS 1N34A germanium diodes alongside the silicon clipping diodes for extended headroom and smoother breakup. The boost is built around NOS J201 JFETs, delivering tube-like saturation with an additional buffer stage that preserves highs through long cable runs.

The TAUON combines a transparent overdrive into a tube-voiced JFET boost. Together they cover subtle tone sweetening, edge-of-breakup, and saturated drive, with a natural feel that stays responsive to your picking and guitar volume.
Overdrive Stage
The first stage is a Bluesbreaker-style overdrive powered by a JRC4580DD op amp, the low-noise version of the same chip found in the King of Tone. It features NOS 1N34A germanium diodes alongside the original silicon diodes, increasing headroom and softening the clipping edge for smooth compression, warm harmonics, and organic breakup.
Boost Stage
The overdrive runs into a cascode boost built with NOS J201 JFETs. These increasingly rare components share the same characteristics as vacuum tubes, adding body, punch, and preamp-like character with touch-sensitive breakup.
Combined Performance
With the stages stacked in this order, the TAUON is designed for gain staging. Use the boost to push your amp into natural saturation and lift your signal for leads. Or turn up the overdrive to hit the boost harder and drive the boost stage into its own warm, harmonically rich breakup.

NOS 1N34A Germanium Diodes
A highly sought-after germanium diode, famously used in the original Klon Centaur. Its soft clipping curve and low forward voltage deliver warm, musical overdrive with rich harmonics. These diodes are increasingly scarce, making them a prized component.

JRC4580DD Op Amp
The low-noise variant of the JRC4580D, famously used in the King of Tone. This op amp delivers warm mids and smooth clipping with enhanced clarity, providing the punchy, saturated overdrive tone that defines the Bluesbreaker lineage.
NOS J201 JFETs
One of the most sought-after JFETs in boutique pedal building, prized for its tube-like warmth and dynamic response. These components are increasingly scarce, and their electrical specs vary widely. Only a select few meet our requirements, hand-tested for vintage mojo.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the TAUON cost more than other two-stage pedals?
The TAUON's boost stage is built around NOS J201 JFETs, which are becoming extremely scarce. These vintage components are essential to the TAUON's tube-like dynamics and amp-like response. As supply dwindles, sourcing tested, matched J201s has become more difficult and expensive.
